    Englishmen in the Age of Shakespeare loved music. They played it, sang it, danced to it, or simply sat and enjoyed it, as they did when they attended performances of Shakespeare's plays. Shakespeare composed song lyrics for his plays and called for vocal and instrumental music in his stage directions. Music and dancing abounded in his comedies.
